Trekking/Adventure
As well as spanning the world's biggest archipelago, Indonesia has more
volcanoes than any other country - about 400, 129 of them active, representing a
seventh of the world's total volcanic activity. Every day seismograph register
tremors throughout Indonesia and never a year goes by without an eruption of
sorts somewhere. It's truly a geological battlefield. The islands of Indonesia
form part of the "ring of fire" that encircles the Pacific Ocean. The ring is
the physical manifestation of collisions of several plates that form the Earth's
crust. With friendly people, rugged mountain chains, brooding volcanoes and
dense, biologically rich vegetations make Indonesia an ideal destination for
holiday adventures who want to climb, trek and explore in a tropical climate.
The plant and animal life to be observed as you push on up heavily clad mountain
slopes is amazing and varied. Some of the largest expanses of rainforest in
Southeast Asia are still to be found in Indonesia and more than 40.000 varieties
of flora have so far been identified. And when you break of the forest canopy to
less thickly vegetated upper slopes - with the mouth of a volcano perhaps only
meters above
